I love reading new tales at Christmas-time. This was a nice old fashioned Christmas story. I enjoyed it. I also love that it is free!
Wonderful story, well written, a picture of faith and kindness.
Tarkington packs so much into so few pages. A delightfully insightful book.
This is a beautifully written story from a great american author about a shy man who hardly speaks, overcoming his shyness for the sake of an imaginative little boy who is ill. An excellent book to read aloud at Christmas.
While Christmas isn't central to the story, it's fitting at the end. The characters seemed real enough and the era was depicted well. All in all, it's a nice quick read.
I've rediscovered Booth Tarkington, what a wonderful Christmas story!! I wanted to send a copy of one of his books to my grandson who lives in Tarkington Hall at Purdue University when I happened upon this little jewel!
